Scholarships Benefit Arizona Teens, College Students

Right now, the future workers of Resolution Copper are sitting in elementary school classrooms throughout the Copper Triangle, learning about long division, fractions and earth science. So supporting education and helping to develop leaders of tomorrow are important for our company and for the communities in which we operate. Scholarships are a particularly valuable way to encourage education and life skills development. Here’s a look at how students from Superior, Arizona, and surrounding communities are benefiting:

Camp Anytown
We recently announced winners of our 2007 Camp Anytown Scholarship, a financial aid award established to foster leadership skills among area teens. Five scholarship winners, one each from Globe, Kearny, Miami, Superior and San Carlos, were selected by a committee of town mayors. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and personal merit, and will pay for camp tuition, room and board, as well as transportation to and from the camp.

The Prescott, Arizona-based Camp Anytown has taught various youth development and leadership programs since 1957, and in that period, has hosted more than 30,000 Arizona teens. In 2006 Resolution Copper, in partnership with mayors from communities in the Copper Triangle and nearby areas, introduced the scholarship program to support attendance at the summer camps.

Resolution Copper Scholarship Program
2007 marks the sixth year of the Resolution Copper Scholarship program, which benefits students attending an Arizona university, community college or business/trade school. Currently 16 Resolution Copper Scholarship recipients are attending Arizona universities. The four-year, $6,000 renewable grants are awarded to students who concentrate on math, science, engineering or business. Recipients are selected by a school-appointed committee, and the program now includes high schools in Apache Junction, Globe, Miami, Hayden-Winkelman, Florence, San Carlos and Superior.
