Safety First
2008 safety performance highlights
During 2008, we achieved all safety targets related to our safety training and safety interactions. As measured against MSHA criteria, our on-site safety record was also achieved. However, Resolution Copper has a higher standard and counts restricted workday injuries as LTI's. We recorded two such injuries in 2008. In addition, we completed a high-level risk assessment of our entire property. These assessments help us to determine the most significant safety risks, then instigate a variety of measures to mitigate those risks. During our 2008 assessment, the most significant identified risks were related to our current shaft sinking and construction activities, namely the potential for the following accidents:
- Objects being dropped from a height that could endanger workers in the shaft
- Workers falling from a height
- Driving accidents related to vehicles moving on and around the site
Once these risks were identified, we placed a series of protective measures in place to mitigate risk. Examples include practices to limit the likelihood of workers being located in an area where a falling object might strike and procedures for securing equipment and/or tools being used when working from heights.
