Applicants for Resolution Copper positions apply through our parent company, Rio Tinto and we follow the employment policies and cultural guidelines detailed in Rio Tinto's The way we work. We seek highly skilled and motivated workers, and many of our positions require specialized industry-related experience.
An unusual benefit in joining Resolution Copper is our approach to vacation allocation. Most companies base the number of vacation days allotted to employees on years of service with their company, i.e., new employees are granted less vacation than employees with five or ten years of service. At Resolution Copper, we recognize that skilled workers bring with them years of experience from past career positions that can immediately and directly benefit RCM. Consequently, we incorporate previous experience in calculating the vacation time allocated to a new hire. For example, if a mining engineer comes to Resolution Copper with six years of directly related experience, he or she will immediately be granted vacation time equal to six years tenure at RCM.
During 2008, we developed a comprehensive orientation program for new employees. That program is now underway and is designed to provide all new employees with an in-depth initiation to our company and culture, major functional areas and our commitment to sustainable development. The multi-phased training concludes with a site tour of our Superior-based mining operation. Other orientation training subjects include, but are not limited to:
- Corporate relations, including corporate communications and external relations
- Environmental commitment, including ISO 14001, our approach to reclamation and environmental policies and procedures (dust control, hazardous materials handling, etc)
- Information Systems and Technology - policies and procedures that govern computer and internet use, the Resolution Copper portal and IS & T support
- Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) training
- Safety induction training
