Socio-Economic

2008 socio-economic highlights

  • 2008 wages and salaries totaled $9.5 million, a 54.4 percent increase over the 2008 figure of $6.2 million. (This does not include residual contributions to the local economy from indirect job creation).
  • Materials, goods and services totaled approximately $112 million. Of this amount, $11 million was spent in Superior and surrounding areas, a year-to-year increase of 38.5 percent.
  • During 2008, we exceeded our annual local hire goal of 40 to 50 percent for contractors (75 percent) and attained our goal with 44 percent of employee new hires hired locally. Total workforce at year end numbered 311 Level 1 contractors and 70 Resolution Copper employees.
  • During 2008, Resolution Copper Mining contributed $162,000 toward support of host communities and partnerships, a six percent decrease from the previous year. A process is in place to consider and select donations recipients based on established guidelines. New guidelines and a downloadable Request for Funding form were added to our website early in 2008. Funds are targeted toward issues that the community has identified as important, as determined by our baseline polls, needs assessments, community surveys and community committees.
