2008 environmental highlights
In 2008, Resolution Copper progressed on a variety of environmental fronts. We installed several hydrology wells to assist in developing hydrologic models that will determine if mining may affect the regional aquifers, and if so, what mitigation options are viable. We also continued studies focused on ways of using energy efficiently and finding clean energy sources. Additionally, we continued to purchase excess Central Arizona Project (CAP) water to be used during the mining operation instead of groundwater.
Other 2008 environmental highlights:
- Continued baseline studies on air, water, land and biodiversity for the mine.
- Evaluated various alternatives in preparation for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
- Maintained ISO 14001:2004 certification of Resolution Copper's Environmental Management System.
- Participated in the Superstition Vistas development organization supporting multiple land use alternatives along the Magma Arizona Railroad (MARRCO) corridor.

Tracking and resolving environmental incidents
Our commitment to environmental stewardship is underscored by a detailed incident reporting system. A log is kept of any operational incident affecting the environment, including cause, extent of impact and steps taken to resolve the incident. We use lessons learned from these incidents to improve our environmental processes and procedures.
During 2008, nine minor environmental incidents were logged.
