Cookies, Copper & Curiosity: Sparking STEM Learning
What do cookies have to do with copper mining? Everything—if you ask a first grader.
At Resolution Copper, we believe education is one of the most powerful tools to support and strengthen our communities—and we’re all in. Our latest Reading and Discovery Educational Initiative brought that belief to life in classrooms across the Copper Triangle.
With 13 dedicated volunteers giving 15 hours of their time, our team visited seven local elementary schools—Peralta Trail, Copper Rim, Ray, Hayden, Superior, Miami Charles Bejarano, and Desert Vista—to read This Little Town Where We Mine Copper to excited first graders. But this wasn’t just a typical story-time.
After the book, students rolled up their sleeves for a sweet hands-on activity: “mining” chocolate chips from cookies using toothpicks. The goal? To show them how copper is mined—and how it powers their everyday lives. It was fun, a little messy, and totally unforgettable.
This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting education at all levels. From introducing the basics of mining in first-grade classrooms to supporting STEM programs and teacher workshops, high school career fairs, and even big-league initiatives like the Diamondbacks STEM Dugout and our scholarship program—we’re showing up for students across Arizona.
And it means the world to us that we’re able to do this right here at home. Many of our employees live and work in the Copper Triangle, and opportunities like this—giving back to the same schools their own kids attend—make a big impact.
Because when we invest in education, we’re investing in our future workforce, our neighbors, and our community. And we’re proud to help spark that curiosity—one book, one cookie, and one copper connection at a time.
