Resolution Copper highlights local economic impact following National Apprenticeship Week

Superior, Ariz. (November 17, 2020) – Following National Apprenticeship Week (November 8-14), Resolution Copper announced that 12 local employees enrolled in the company’s three-year apprentice program at Central Arizona College (CAC) will graduate in December.

“The Resolution Copper Apprentice Program is a central part of our efforts to cultivate a local pipeline of talent to work in the mining industry,” said Andrew Lye, Resolution Copper Project Director. “We applaud the dedication of our apprentices as they approach graduation, and we are grateful to Central Arizona College for their partnership in training the next generation of leaders in our industry.”

The program provides for the development of the local workforce while allowing Resolution Copper to develop the skills required to safely operate and maintain the assets on-site, including the recently completed Shaft 9 project. The apprenticeship program students have been employees of Resolution Copper, working safely in highly sought-after technical roles, and will continue to be employed, applying their skills and qualifications, within the business upon completion of the program.

The Resolution Copper Apprentice Program is just one of the ways the company is focused on delivering long-term economic benefits to the region.

The company recently published its Q3 2020 Scorecard, demonstrating its commitment to building the local economy and hiring from the greater Superior, AZ area. As of now, approximately 550 Resolution Copper employees and contractors, which is more than 70% of the total workforce, live within 40 miles of the project. Most of the remaining workers hail from Arizona as well.

Beyond employing local talent, Resolution Copper seeks to hire local businesses to assist with projects, including Native American-owned businesses where possible. Roughly 65% of the company’s spending to date this year has been with Arizona vendors and suppliers.
