Celebrating Unity and Achievement: A Week to Remember at NABINation

As the 21st Annual Native American Basketball Invitational (NABI) drew to a close, we at Resolution Copper were in awe of a truly unique week of empowerment, community, and celebration. Being the presenting sponsor for this year’s event, held in Phoenix, Arizona, was an honor and a rare and profound privilege for our team and tribal employees.

From July 21 to July 27, we were immersed in the vibrant spirit of NABI, where 196 teams from 184 Tribal Nations across the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand gathered. The love for basketball united these young Indigenous athletes and sparked their dreams and aspirations, a transformation we were proud to witness and be a part of.

Our involvement went beyond sponsorship; it was about making a meaningful impact. Here are some of the highlights that made NABI experience unforgettable:

Engaging with Future Leaders: At the College and Career Fair, we connected with bright young Indigenous players, sharing insights about career opportunities in mining and distributing fun Resolution Copper swag.

Proud Sponsorship Moment: We were thrilled to be recognized during the team Meet and Greet as the proud presenting sponsor of NABI 2024, standing alongside champions of Indigenous youth empowerment.

Team Spirit and Support: Our employees volunteered their time and energy throughout the tournament, cheering passionately for the remarkable youth teams who showcased their skills and determination on the court.

Empowering Scholarships: As part of our commitment to education, we had the privilege of presenting $10,000 and $5,000 scholarships to deserving youth, including Keon Talgo from the San Carlos Apache Tribe, congratulating him on his outstanding achievement.

From Courts to Mines: It was particularly special to see former NABI champs and alumni now part of our Resolution Copper team. They embody the spirit of perseverance and excellence both on the courts and at our project.

The memories we made and the connections we forged at the week-long tournament will resonate within our hearts and minds for years. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to support such a transformative program that empowers Indigenous youth through sports and education.

Together, we continue to champion diversity, unity, and the limitless potential of our future leaders.
