Celebrating Unity and Achievement: A Week to Remember at NABINation
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the No. 9 Shaft Sinking Galloway project, a critical endeavor that brings the No. 9 Shaft up to the 2024 standards of Resolution Copper, Rio Tinto, and Redpath. This project was essential to ensure the safe deepening of No. 9 Shaft, involving comprehensive structural and electrical upgrades.
The project required the removal of three decks along with their support columns, electrical cables, and hydraulic lines. A new state-of-the-art electrical system was installed to meet Redpath’s 2024 shaft sinking standards. Our dedicated shaft and mechanical crews rehabilitated the remaining structural components, installed new load cells, fairleads, machined deflection sheaves, repaired concrete buckets, and completed collar steel repairs.
Collaboration was key to our success. The site engineering team provided crucial support throughout the project, ensuring all mechanical components were meticulously inspected and maintained. The Safety team played a pivotal role, offering continuous training and support to all crews, prioritizing safety every step of the way.
This monumental effort took 24,481 man-hours. We celebrate the dedication and hard work of every team member that was involved in this project. The entire Resolution Copper O&M team worked seamlessly with Redpath, embodying the spirit of teamwork and excellence.
Special acknowledgments are due to Matt Brumen and Ricky Curtis for their exemplary leadership during the deck steel demo and modification. Additionally, Dave Rockwood and Calvin Georgeoff excelled in commissioning the obstruction system, ensuring it met our stringent standards.
