Pioneering Progress: The Mini Work Deck at #10 Shaft

At Resolution Copper, innovation drives us forward. Our latest advancement, the Mini Work Deck for the #10 Shaft, exemplifies our commitment to improving safety, efficiency, and productivity in mining operations.

Traditional work decks, though vital for tasks like pipe replacement and cable pulls, require a substantial crew and time for installation. Weekly shaft inspections often led to delays due to the need for conveyance changes.

Our new Mini Work Deck offers a solution. This 20-foot platform provides 360-degree access to the shaft, featuring an observation platform, a water tank for pressure washing, and easy installation with a 1255 telehandler forklift. It’s a hybrid of the personal bucket and traditional work deck, enabling our crew to conduct inspections efficiently and address issues without delay.

The Mini Work Deck was born from collaboration between AJ Quiroz and his crew, our engineering team, led by Bobby Crab and Charles DiNolfi, and Cementation’s engineering group. Virtual reality simulations allowed shaft miners to refine the design, ensuring it met their specific needs.

Fabricated by local contractor Titan, the deck underwent regular site visits to monitor progress and resolve challenges. Our electrical team, led by Jason Galino and Wade Boyde, equipped the deck with advanced components, including lights, winches, and a charging station.

Commissioned in June, the Mini Work Deck has transformed our shaft maintenance operations. Installation now takes just 15 minutes, allowing for quick issue resolution and enhanced safety.

This project underscores the power of innovation and collaboration. At Resolution Copper, we’re proud to lead the industry with cutting-edge solutions that improve operations and set new standards for the future. The Mini Work Deck is a testament to our dedication to excellence and progress in mining.
