Arizonans voice support for the development of Resolution Copper

For more than a decade, we’ve listened proactively during ongoing public consultation about the Resolution Copper project. We understand concerns remain. We are committed to continued engagement with communities and Native American Tribes and working to seek consent before any decision on the project’s development.

On Friday, January 15, the project reached an important milestone in the federal permitting process. The US Forest Service published the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Resolution Copper, informed by more than seven years of independent study and public engagement.

We appreciate the Arizonans who used this opportunity to voice their support for the project and the potential long-term benefits it can bring to the area.

Governor Doug Ducey (R-AZ)

“Arizona has a long history of responsible mining, showing that we can have a robust mining sector while protecting our environment and cultural history. My thanks to the USDA Forest Service for their partnership on a project that will benefit our mining industry, mining professionals, and entire state.”

Arizona Chamber President and CEO Glenn Hamer

“Today marks the welcome end of a thorough, years-long process that will lead to Arizona being home to one of the nation’s most significant copper mining projects. The Forest Service conducted its work with transparency and with a genuine commitment to public engagement. We thank the Forest Service for its excellent work. This is a tremendous job creator. Not only will Resolution Copper be a major employer, but it will lead to construction activities and new commercial development such as housing, hotels and retail. What’s more, we know from this EIS that it will be a safe, environmentally responsible project that will help meet the ever-growing demand for copper.”

Vice-Chairman of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors Pete Rios

“As Pinal County District 1 supervisor and a native to the Hayden-Winkelman area, I am extremely familiar with copper mining — both the opportunity it represents and its legacy. I know the Resolution Copper project and the enormous opportunities a project like this can unlock for Pinal County. I think you’ll agree, as I do, that Resolution Copper is good for Arizona and good for the people of Pinal County.”

Mike Oddonetto of Oddonetto Construction, Inc., based in Globe, AZ

“Resolution Copper has been an important source of business for my firm over the past year, enabling us to expand our own training program, and I look forward to continuing to work with the company to grow our business.”

The publication of the Final EIS is welcome progress, but we still have a long way to go. As we move forward, we will continue to work with all stakeholders, including communities and Native American Tribes, to find ways to partner together.
