Smarter Stewardship: Setting a New Standard for Land and Water Use

At Resolution Copper, mining is only part of the story. We are equally committed to protecting the land and water that sustain our operations and our communities.

We believe that sustainable mining and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Through advanced water recycling systems, a reduced water-use footprint, and a 15-year, $75 million land reclamation project, we are proving that responsible mining is not only possible, it is essential.

Leading the Way in Water Conservation

We are setting a new benchmark for water conservation in mining. Resolution Copper plans to use less than 5 gallons of water per pound of copper produced, significantly below the industry average.

Since 2009, we have donated over 7 billion gallons of treated groundwater to Arizona farmers—an average of 1.4 million gallons per day. This treated water travels 27 miles from our site to irrigate local crops, supporting agriculture and reducing groundwater pumping.

Resolution Copper has already invested tens of millions of dollars to store enough surface water in the ground to sustain our operations for decades. This approach will result in a net-zero impact to the groundwater when the stored water is recovered.

Restoring the Land, Reviving Ecosystems

Our commitment to environmental conservation and land restoration extends beyond water. We have launched a variety of programs to protect and balance the delicate interaction between critical environmental factors. A few highlights include:

We have partnered with organizations like University of Arizona, Tonto National Forest, Boyce Thompson Arboretum, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Natural Restorations to promote biodiversity and ecological resilience across the region.

Investing in the Community We Call Home

This work is not just environmental; it is deeply personal and local.

“I’ve seen the transformation firsthand,” says Mario Sanchez, owner of Superior Environmental Solutions. “What used to be a blighted, unusable area is now restored with native plants and walkable spaces. It’s not just good for the environment, it’s good for the people who live here.” Hear more of Mario’s story here.

Our community investment in mining has created real economic opportunities. By partnering with small local businesses like Mario’s, we have supported erosion control, native planting, trail maintenance, and site improvements—sustaining local jobs and empowered the community to take part in land restoration efforts.

We have also worked alongside volunteers and residents to clean up trails, remove invasive species, and rehabilitate the historic Magma Copper West Plant site. This effort alone has transformed hundreds of acres of legacy mining land into safer, healthier spaces, opening the door to new possibilities for the future.

Mining with Purpose

To us, stewardship in mining means caring for both people and the planet. It means listening, investing, and doing the work, every day.

Sustainability is not just a commitment; it is a practice. And at Resolution Copper, it is how we mine with purpose.
