Resolution Copper reaffirms that public access to the Oak Flat Campground, as well as to recreational roads and climbing areas on private land in the Oak Flat area, will remain open for the foreseeable future following completion of a federal land exchange this month.
The U.S. Forest Service and Resolution Copper, a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto and BHP that represents one of the world’s most significant untapped copper deposits, have completed a Federal land exchange required to unlock the full potential of the project.
Resolution Copper has donated $285,000 to Mesa-based United Food Bank to support the nonprofit’s mission and work in the Copper Corridor, tribal communities, and in the East Valley. The multi-year agreement through December 2028 comes at a critical time when there is record demand for food among all populations, including seniors and working families.
“The bill seeks to undo bipartisan legislation that was passed more than a decade ago, supported by administrations of both parties, and been upheld by federal courts at every level. It would stop a critical project that will deliver billions of dollars in economic benefit to Arizona, employ thousands of rural Arizonans, and secure a world-leading source of copper for the benefit of the American people for generations to come.”

Rio Tinto, the majority owner of Resolution Copper, has donated $1 million to support flood relief efforts in the City of Globe and Town of Miami, following devastating flash floods in late September and additional flooding that occurred this past weekend, causing widespread damage to local communities and businesses.

We are confident the court will ultimately affirm the district court’s well-reasoned orders explaining in detail why the congressionally directed land exchange satisfies all applicable legal requirements.
Resolution Copper has been awarded the 2025 Safety Award for Small Underground Mine by the Rocky Mountain Mining Institute (RMMI), recognizing the operation’s outstanding and ongoing safety performance during the 2024 calendar year. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Resolution Copper has received this distinguished award.
Resolution Copper welcomes today’s republication of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS)—a positive step forward for the project.
